Recently I went through a study report of STPI (Software Technology Parks of India) among 500 IT companies, which summarized that the share of women continues to be quite low in the long run of their IT career.
Also a similar study shows the percentage of the potential female workers in white collar jobs has grown up from 45% to 60% in past 5 years.
But despite of them pioneering the high profile position in the industries the career growth rate is comparatively low as compared to male employees.
Many reasons and logics can be put forward for it and has been put as well. But here what I mainly want to put your attention to is the skill of knowing one’s worth and marketing the same to bosses is acquaint to what level in females.
I got chance to go through an article saying women don’t negotiate on salary and appraisal terms….and I was convinced with it.
The thing is that female workers just accept the incentives and appraisal given to them. Most of them are shy in talking and demanding increments or negotiate on the same matters. One reason may even be the company privacy policies which says not to discuss n disclose the appraisal n salary matters. But by any reason it is finally being paid by getting satisfied (or remaining unsatisfied) with a lower position and a lower salary.
But it is really sad that the same women doing superb in monitory issues at home are sometimes behaving dumb at workplaces. Whether it’s buying any small stuff or service without negotiating it to your satisfactory level, or balancing the economy of your home wisely, women are managing them excellently at home. But where does the same talent vanishes while negotiating your credits and getting your own worth? To get it, sometimes u need to show that u do deserve or else the crying baby will get milk.
The old guards of the system will put lot of logic against what I said but the thing remains still there that how much we women care about raising our voice n talent to know our own worth n improve the skills to negotiate. The shyness has to be overcome and women will have to come forward to ask their increment so as to avoid the huge loss they incur during their long career.
Every time is high time of knowing the right things and steps for improvement.
